50/30/20 calculator
Start with 50% of your take-home pay for needs, 30% for wants and 20% for savings or extra debt repayments. Then see how that split fits your costs.
How to read your split
The three amounts add up to your take-home pay. At $1,000 a week, the starting split gives $500 for needs, $300 for wants and $200 for savings.
List your actual costs under each allocation to compare them with the amount set aside. If needs take more than half your pay, try 60/20/20, 70/15/15 or drag the bar to make your own split.
Weekly, fortnightly and monthly views use 52, 26 and 12 periods a year. Amounts are AUD and rounded to cents. The split is an educational starting point, not a requirement or personal financial advice.
“Dave's numbers” loads the worked example from the 50/30/20 guide. Your entries stay in your browser.
